Marina St Vincent sits at Wirrina Cove on the eastern shore of Gulf St Vincent, about 90 kilometres south of Adelaide on the Fleurieu Peninsula. It is a cruising base and a weekend home for boats rather than a suburb of the city, and many of the vessels berthed there are visited rather than lived on. That suits a travelling service. We schedule Wirrina as a day or a run of days and group work so that owners share the travel.

The marina has been managed by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport since March 2020, with an onsite manager and recent work on pontoons and security. We book through the office and keep our contractor documentation available.

The marina offers more than 200 berths, with leases from around 10 metres up to 22 metres, and fuel, power, water and pump-out on the pontoons. There is a hardstand, a launch ramp and a 40-tonne boat lift rather than a slipway, with a chandlery and office alongside. That means a vessel can be detailed pen-side, or on the hardstand if it is already out of the water, without leaving the cove.

Provisioning is limited, which is worth knowing for an owner planning to be aboard while we work. We bring everything the job needs with us.

Conditions on the Fleurieu coast

Wirrina faces the open gulf, and the weather arrives from the west with nothing in the way. Salt spray carries into the marina on a fresh breeze, and the summer sun on a boat that sits unused between visits does its work without anyone watching. A vessel that is only seen once a month can collect a lot of salt and grime between one visit and the next.
