Boat Detailing at West Beach and Adelaide Shores

Working at West Beach

West Beach is where much of Adelaide’s trailer-boat and dinghy fleet lives, alongside the keelboats of the Adelaide Sailing Club. The West Beach boat ramp inside the Adelaide Shores precinct is one of the busiest launch sites on the coast, with multiple lanes, floating pontoons and breakwaters that make it usable most of the year, and the wash-down bays beside it see a steady stream of boats coming off the water.

Our work here is mostly on the hardstand and on the trailer. A boat that lives on its trailer can be detailed at the club or in a driveway, with the hull sides and transom all within easy reach.

Adelaide Sailing Club and the boat haven

The Adelaide Sailing Club sits at the end of Barcoo Road in a central beachside position, with facilities built in 1998 as part of the Holdfast Shores development. The club offers dinghy park storage and hardstand boat storage for members, short and long term, across three storage areas. Working there means working to the club’s rules: induction, contractor documentation lodged with the office, and respect for race days and neighbours on the hard.

The West Beach boat haven and ramp at Adelaide Shores serve owners who trailer their vessels rather than berth them. For those boats we time our work around the owner’s use, so a detail happens in the gap between outings.

Conditions at West Beach

West Beach takes the westerly weather straight off Gulf St Vincent. Salt spray and blown sand reach every surface on a windy day, and the summer sun on a boat sitting on its trailer in the open is hard on vinyl and exterior surfaces. Boats stored on the hard without a cover show it fastest, because the sun works on them every day whether they are used or not.

A regular Maintenance Wash keeps salt and sand from baking on, and Protect & Shine adds UV protection to exterior surfaces and vinyl for a boat that lives in the open.
