Working within the club

The Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia at North Haven is one of the two places in Adelaide where a large share of the state’s prestige vessels live, and it runs like one. Contractors working on members’ boats are expected to be inducted and respectful of the club’s operations and of neighbours on the pens. We keep our contractor paperwork current with the club office, so that an owner never has to chase a document before we can start.

Work is booked around the club’s own calendar, race days in particular, and we let the office know when and where we will be so that our unit is never a surprise to marina staff. North Haven is also VELA’s home base, which makes CYCSA the easiest place in the state for us to fit a job in.

Marina East and Marina West access

Our mobile unit works pen-side across both Marina East and Marina West. Everything we need travels down the pontoon on a trolley, and the vessel does not move. That matters for owners who keep their boat in the water year round, and for the larger motor yachts and catamarans that are awkward to lift for anything short of antifouling. A Maintenance Wash, an Exterior Detail or a Full Detail inside and out can all be done at the berth.

Hardstand and slipway coordination

Some work is easier out of the water. If a vessel is already coming out for antifouling, we can clean the hull sides and topsides and detail the rest of the boat in the same lift. We coordinate with the club’s slipway and yard so that our days fit inside the haul-out window, and we work alongside the antifouling contractor without getting in each other’s way.

Conditions at North Haven

North Haven faces west onto Gulf St Vincent. The pens get full afternoon sun and the sea breeze that comes with it, which is pleasant for owners and hard on a boat. Salt spray carries across the marina on windy days and dries on every surface it touches, and a boat left between cleans soon shows it on the glass, stainless and non-skid. A regular Maintenance Wash keeps on top of it, and Protect & Shine adds UV protection to exterior surfaces and vinyl that sit in the afternoon sun.
